“Like icing to our cake!,” on his birthday and last working day before his mandatory retirement after one year of extension, Director Richard P. Burgos of the Science and Technology Information Institute (STII), an attached agency of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) received  another ‘unmodified opinion’  from the Commission on Audit (COA) for its Financial Statements, a feat of three consecutive years receiving the accolade, from 2021 to 2023. 

On 20 June 2024, the state auditors expressed their appreciation for the valuable support and congratulation to Director Burgos together with the finance team of DOST-STII for its fairness of presentation of the Financial Statements for the year ended December 31, 2023.

“Kapag sinabi po namin na ‘unmodified opinion’ the financial statement has no material errors,” COA said in a statement. 

Unmodified Opinion (also referred to as Unqualified Opinion) is given to agencies for the fair presentation of its financial statements in accordance with the International Public Sector Accounting Standards of the International Standards of the Supreme Audit institutions. 

DOST-STII has maintained a culture of clean financial governance which is a testament to the agency's commitment to ensure financial transparency and accountability in the government.

“Sa lahat ng nagtrabaho sa DOST-STII sa loob ng walong taon, where I was the Director of the Institute, Maraming Salamat po sa inyo!,” shares Director Burgos.

The DOST-STII first received the said audit opinion for the 2019 calendar year, making it the 4th time for the institute to receive the said audit rating.(By Ma. Lotuslei P. Dimagiba, DOST-STII)
