Mr. Terence Abraham Alombro of PLDT & SMART Communications Inc. on his talk about generative AI for MSMEs

"Imagine a tool that can write marketing copy, design logos, or even generate new marketing collateral—that's the magic of generative AI."

This was the opening statement by Mr. Terence Abraham Alombro, a Stakeholder Management Specialist at PLDT & SMART Communications Inc., during his discussion on Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), a technology that enhances online businesses and responds to emerging AI trends in accelerating business growth.

The forum on sustainable AI innovation towards a green economy was part of this year's 2024 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) in CALABARZON. The event, themed "Providing Solutions and Opening Opportunities in the Green Economy," was held on October 15, 2024, at the Carmona Community Center.

Generative AI is a form of artificial intelligence capable of creating new content, such as text, images, music, or even video, based on patterns it has learned from existing data.

To simplify the concept, Mr. Alombro likened it to a super chef. Just as a chef prepares a dish using knowledge of various recipes and an understanding of different flavors and techniques, generative AI uses its training data (text, images, photos, videos) to conduct data analysis (patterns, styles) and generate the desired content or information.

To demonstrate the practical use of generative AI, he presented a sample project: developing a coffee shop business. The three AI applications used were ChatGPT for generating a business name and slogan, Looka for designing a logo, and Canva for creating a social media poster. Apps like ChatGPT can also help create a social media calendar with captions.

However, Mr. Alombro also emphasized the importance of knowing how to prompt or "train" AI tools to achieve the desired results. He described a prompt as the recipe that the AI tool uses to produce outputs. A good prompt should include clear goals, a target audience, tone and style, relevant details, and the desired output format.

Ms. Kristine Joyce Magadia of PLDT & SMART Communications Inc. discussing AI trends and opportunities to accelerate business growth

Meanwhile, Ms. Kristine Joyce Magadia, a Stakeholder Management Executive at PLDT & SMART Communications Inc., shared insights on the trends and best practices for using AI in business. She especially encouraged micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to start small with AI, explore different tools, and stay updated on AI trends.

Ms. Magadia also reminded everyone not to rely solely on AI, emphasizing that a certain level of human creativity is still essential. She further noted that resilience in cybersecurity begins with users themselves, who need to be cybersmart and cybersecure.
