In a festive mood, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) concluded the year on a high note by honoring three of its longest-serving media partners during its year-in-review event.
About 90 media professionals attended the event, joined by DOST officials, including Undersecretary for Scientific and Technical Services Maridon O. Sahagun and Assistant Secretary for Administrative and Legal Affairs Dianne L. Ignacio. True to its "Rockin' Holidays" theme, DOST officials and media partners celebrated a successful year that brought about numerous innovations and developments across various sectors and industries.
“This year, you have witnessed and celebrated several major milestones of the DOST that highlight excellence in the field of science and technology. These successes could not have been possible without the unconditional support from our media partners who have remained passionate in delivering the good news about science, technology, and innovation,” said DOST Undersecretary Sahagun.
Undersecretary Sahagun noted that DOST has monitored its public relations value for published and aired news that exceeded PHP2 billion, reinforcing its status as one of the most talked-about national government agencies. She emphasized that this achievement underscores DOST’s consistent ranking among the top three most trusted government agencies for several years. The continued support and coverage from media partners motivate DOST to enhance its public service and drive for innovation that positively impacts national progress.
Honoring Media Professionals in Appreciation Awards
Later in the evening, DOST recognized its long-time media partners through the DOST Media Appreciation Awards. These awards celebrated the dedication of seasoned media professionals who have significantly contributed to promoting DOST’s initiatives to the public. The honorees have showcased DOST's work for over 20 years across various platforms, including print, online, radio, and television.
This year, three outstanding media professionals were honored for their steadfast support and contributions to science and technology. The awards were presented as tokens of gratitude for their long-standing partnership with DOST.
The awardees were Atty. Melvin B. Calimag, founder of Newsbytes.ph; Teena Shotwell Clemente from DWDD AFP Radio; and Ms. Elena Empaz from PTV. Their efforts have enhanced public awareness and appreciation of science.
"It is truly overwhelming because, in the past 20 years, this is the first time we have received an award from the DOST. At PTV, we remain committed to supporting DOST by providing platforms to share with the public the noble work of our Filipino scientists, engineers, and researchers," said Empaz.
Launch of the S&T Post Web Magazine
One of the evening's highlights was the launch of the S&T Post Web Magazine. For four decades, the S&T Post has been a reliable platform for scientists, researchers, inventors, and educators to share information and insights on the latest advancements in science and technology with the public, playing a vital role in raising awareness and understanding of scientific developments.
Embracing digital transformation, the S&T Post aims to reach a wider audience and enhance the dissemination of knowledge about science and technology to a broader sector.
