The Department of Science and Technology - Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII) launches its Freedom of Information (FOI) Hub with a commitment to make relevant science and technology information accessible to the public.

The establishment of the FOI hub on December 12, 2024, at the DOST-STII building is in accordance with Executive Order (EO) No. 2 Series of 2016, known as the Freedom of Information Program, which allows the public to request information about government transactions and operations that involve public interest. It also includes public records, documents, and data for research.

Meanwhile, Mr. Alan C. Taule, Chief Science Research Specialist of the Information Resources and Analysis Division (IRAD), and DOST-STII FOI Decision Maker is grateful to the members of the agency’s Executive Committee including former FOI Decision Maker and DOST-STII Director Richard P. Burgos and Ms. Ma. Teresa M. Rosqueta and Ms. Jean Marie C. Errasquin, FOI Receiving Officers in making the initiative possible.

He further encourages the public and library users to take advantage of the FOI hub.

“The establishment of this FOI Corner stands as our commitment to empowering every stakeholder by providing access to information that is crucial, relevant, and timely. Transparency fosters trust, and by opening this pathway, we are ensuring that the values of integrity and openness are upheld in everything we do and everything we stand for,” Taule affirmed during his welcoming message.

Additionally, the Department of Science and Technology recently has been awarded as the FOI Champion in the Department Category during the 2024 FOI Awards organized by the Presidential Communication Office (PCO).

The FOI hub can be found at the entrance of the Filipiniana Unit of the DOST-STII Library, Ground Level in the DOST-STII Building. Library users and visitors can use a designated desktop computer to access the FOI portal and process their information requests. Other supporting documents such as the FOI manual, issuances, and certifications can also be found in the FOI corner.

The STII is one of the service institutes of DOST mandated to establish a science and technology databank and library, disseminate science and technology information, and undertake training on science and technology information. (By Kesha Shua V. Leosala, DOST-STII)
