The Dumingag Tilapia Producers Association in Zamboanga Del Sur recently received equipment worth ₱503,336.00 from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region IX for product quality enhancement, improved production processes, increased income, and employment generation.

Funded through the agency’s Grants-In-Aid (GIA) program, the farmers received a fish dryer, a sorting and fillet table, a hammer mill, feed mixer, and pelletizer, that allow the group the daily output of 20 kilos of dried fish and 300 kilos of feeds.  

On the first day of the Mindanao Regional Scientific Meeting (MRSM) held on 27 April, the focus of the discussion was on the emergence of human diseases in the agricultural sector which is vital to the economy. The MRSM is an annual event that gathers the region’s leading research bodies to elicit intelligent discussions on pressing problems in the country held through online platforms, Zoom and Facebook Live, due to the pandemic.

DOST Region II has been in the frontlines when it comes to helping local micro, small, and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs) in the region. With the goal of helping them to improve their businesses and adjust to the new normal, the DOST has been consistent in providing several science and technology (S&T) services, one of which is the fund for MSMEs in Cagayan Valley.
