Department of Science and Technology (DOST) III Regional Director Dr. Victor B. Mariano awarded to the local government unit (LGU) of Orion, Bataan a cheque amounting to P719,000 during the last quarter of 2015 to help improve the LGU’s disaster risk reduction and management practices. The said funds will be used for the fabrication of two units of DOST-designed fiberglass rescue boats for rescue operations in flooded areas and/or distribution of relief goods.

 

A soon to be established library hub in San Jose West Central School in San Jose City, Nueva Ecija will have STARBOOKS among its array of features and facilities that will provide elementary and high school students in the city with different types of advanced reading and learning materials.

STARBOOKS, or Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosks, was developed by the Department of Science and Technology-Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII). It is the first digital science library in the country, containing tons of information on science, mathematics, and technology in text, audio, and video formats. It does not require Internet connection in order to be accessed.

 

The Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) Science and Technology (S&T) Fair for the Mindanao Cluster got underway in Zamboanga City from December 3-5, 2015 with focus on S&T’s impacts on the rubber, mining and food industries, including halal.

The fair showcased the many benefits of DOST’s Small Enterprise Upgrading Program or SETUP via project visits to program beneficiaries Philippine Pioneer Rubber Product Corp. (PPRPC) and Monmon Bakeshoppe and Snack Haus in Zamboanga.
