Academician Carmencita D. Padilla renewed her call for the passage of the rare diseases bill duringthe Science Legislative Forum organized by Department of Science and Technology-National Academy of Science and Technology (DOST-NAST) held recently at the Philippine International Convention Center.

Rare diseases are debilitating or life-threatening disorders that affect only a small segment of the population.  An estimated 6,000 to 10,000 people in the Philippines are afflicted with a rare disease, most of them children.

 

Some 79 provinces will be hit by El Niño before 2015 ends, according to Sec. Mario G. Montejo of the Department of Science and Technology.

“The El Niño phenomenon will be at its worst this year, worse (El Niño) since 1997,” Sec.Montejo announced at Ozamiz City during the first step of the Science Nation Tour in Northern Mindanaolast Aug 20.

 

The Department of Science and Technology-Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI) is holding an invention contest at the Event Center of the LimKetKai Mall in Cagayan de Oro City with 78 entries vying for six categories.

“We are holding this biennial event in every region to give recognition to talents and inventors,” said Science Secretary Mario G. Montejo of the DOST-sponsored Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits or RICE.
