During an earthquake, the first thing to do is to duck under a sturdy table.
This is called the drop, cover and hold response to an earthquake, and all countries follow this, according to Dr. Renato U. Solidum, director of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), a service institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

The National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), an advisory body of the Department of Science and Technology, is now accepting papers for the Scientific Posters Session, a poster competition to be held as part of the organization’s 36th Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) scheduled on July 9-10, 2014 in Manila.
The poster competition has six categories, namely Agricultural Sciences; Biological Sciences; Chemical, Mathematical and Physical Sciences; Engineering Sciences and Technology; Health Sciences; and Social Sciences.

As chemists and scientists from different laboratories in the Philippines gear up for the ASEAN science community by 2015, the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office No. X organized a world-class training-workshop for this sector.
