The Philippines and Spain recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on cooperation in the field of Information and communications technology (ICT). Representing the Philippines in the signing ceremony was Department of Science and Technology’s Information and Communications Technology Office (DOST-ICTO) Executive Director Louis Casambre, while representing the State Secretariat for Telecommunications and the Information Society of the Ministry of Industry , Energy and Tourism of the Kingdom of Spain was Ambassador Jorge Domeq.

The two countries agreed to cooperate on ICT areas such as spectrum management, cybersecurity, capacity building, disaster risk reduction, and bridging the digital divide. This will be done through the exchange of IT experts and consultants, as well as exchange of best practices and experiences in ICT policy aimed to promote economic and social development.

 

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has sealed an agreement with the country’s biggest cable provider alliance, the Philippine Cable Television Association, Inc. (PCTA), to create “DOSTv”, a 24/7 cable weather information channel to complement the services of DOST’s main weather agency, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

DOSTv shall broadcast accurate and up-to-date weather information of PAGASA, along with hourly satellite and Doppler images and weather sensors data from the Program NOAH website. NOAH, or theNationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards, is DOST’s flagship program for disasterpreparedness under the directive of President Benigno Aquino III.

 

Students and researchers at the Tarlac National High School Annex and  Carlos P. Romulo Library may now access the latest and most relevant science and technology (S&T) information for free, even sans internet connection,  via a stand-alone onsite research kiosk developed by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
