The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Undersecretary for Scientific and Technical Services Dr. Renato U. Solidum Jr. (Seated, 2nd from left) led the signing of the memorandum of agreement with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) as represented by DILG Undersecretary for Barangay Affairs Martin B. Diño (Seated 2nd from right) signifying the start of the new partnership that will carry out the information caravan dubbed as MAGHANDA or the Meteorological And Geological Hazard Advisories, Warning and Notifications for Decisive Action in 17 regions across the country. MAGHANDA aims to provide a clearer understanding of all the warning messages on natural hazards such as earthquakes, storm surges, typhoons, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions among others, for a better response action among the LGUs. The Science and Technology Information Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-STII) welcomes the new partnership for the grassroots with the Association of Science and Mathematics Educators of the Philippine Private Schools (ASMEPPS) during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding held on 15 March 2022 at the host campus, St. Francis of Assisi College-Bacoor Campus. The partnership will capacitate the students and faculty personnel of the 160 ASMEPPS participating members to hone their talents and skills in communicating science through various media platforms and enhance their capabilities in content creation. Some of the activities that will form part of the partnership are the training on science communication writing, audio and video productions, and resource and publication sharing. The DOST-STII implements the Science Journo Ako program, a science communication advocacy program that provides capacity building in packaging science communication using video production, news and feature writing, social media cards development, and publication production.
