The Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) proved its success once again as five of its supported companies, all from the National Capital Region (NCR), were nominated in an international business award.

The five SETUP beneficiaries were named as the country’s entries  to the ASEAN Business Awards (ABA) held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in November 22 last year. 

The five nominees were beneficiaries who availed themselves of technological support, trainings, and equipment acquisition assistance through DOST-SETUP. 

 

With the rise of dengue cases especially among children, a local study has pioneered in the development of a statistical model that readily predicts the threat of dengue outbreaks in public elementary and high schools in the Philippines.

Supported by the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD), the “School-based Mosquito Abundance Model (SMAM)” study offers a predictive model based on actual data estimating the mosquito density in schools without having to do active vector surveillance.

 

A research tool for students that does not need Internet connectivity, in an area where Internet connection is intermittent, certainly creates wonders.

On August 14, 2014, Pagalanggang National High School in the municipality of Dinalupihan in Bataan acquired two units of STARBOOKS from the Department of Science and Technology’s Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII).
